Sketches introduces the first solo show of Venezuelan artist Isabella Benshimol (b. Caracas 1994), curated in collaboration with Mathilde Friis and Gonzalo Herrero. This site-specific project showcases a compilation of photographs taken daily by the artist with her phone between 2019 and 2023, presented alongside a selection of sculptures.

The daily undressing ritual becomes a performance documented here through the ‘sketches’ traced by the artist’s underwear casually left on the floor. This site-specific installation aims to create a space for the depiction of the body’s unconscious and intimate actions and invites us to imagine domestic rituals from showering, going to bed, or having sex. The selection of works explores the female gaze, avoiding the direct representation of the body, and delving into ideas about identity, femininity, and sexuality. These concepts feel out of place in the project, which unfolds in an empty corporate office space in central London – a sterile and predominantly male-dominated environment where these works contrast with the sense of order and power.
